Sweet chestnut or Spanish chestnut is a very important bee plant. In addition to nectar and honeydew, it also provides plenty of pollen. Chestnut honey is of a darker reddish-brown colour with a sharp, bitter scent of chestnut blossoms. Its bitter aroma is attributed to the substantial amount of chestnut pollen, making it especially valuable.
